Here’s the final starting grid for today’s race.
Yesterday’s incident-filled qualifying session left several teams with a lot of repair work to do. McLaren, Ferrari and Alpine completed lengthy repair jobs on Piastri, Leclerc and Colapinto’s cars respectively. They are all due to start from their grid positions.
McLaren could clinch the constructors’ championship today but they need their drivers to move up the order as both start outside the first three rows. Their only consolation is Ferrari did even worse yesterday: Charles Leclerc is their highest starter in 10th.
But behind the Red Bull driver the grid is one of the most unusual we’ve seen this year. Carlos Sainz Jnr joins him on the front row and Liam Lawson is up in third.
Today’s race may well turn out to be shorter than yesterday’s epic qualifying session, which featured no fewer than six red flags. Though only unsurprising thing about it was the identity of the pole-winner – Max Verstappen.
We’re one hour away from the start of the 2025 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
