Five tips for attending the United States Grand Prix in Austin

The US GP at Circuit of The Americas has quickly become one of F1’s biggest events – a mix of Texas hospitality, festival vibes, and great racing on a modern track with a classic feel. From the party atmosphere in Austin to the signature barbecue smoke drifting through the city, here’s how to get the best out of your American F1 adventure.

Soak up downtown Austin – music capital of the world

Austin lives up to its motto: Live Music Capital of the World. From Sixth Street bars to open-air concerts, you’ll find bands playing everywhere during race week. The nightlife is part of the Grand Prix experience, so plan to spend time downtown after the track action.

Arrive early at COTA – the hill at Turn 1 fills fast

The signature view at COTA is the steep climb into Turn 1, where the entire track opens up below you. It’s also where the first-lap drama usually happens. The grandstands and GA areas here fill quickly, so get there early if you want a spot on the hill.

Eat like a Texan – BBQ is non-negotiable

Skip the generic circuit food at least once and head for some Texas barbecue. Brisket, ribs, and pulled pork are the local specialties, and many vendors set up near the track. If you’re staying downtown, Franklin Barbecue and Terry Black’s are legends — but get ready to queue.

Plan your transport – traffic is Texas-sized

Parking at COTA is limited, and traffic on race day can be brutal. Shuttle buses from downtown Austin are often the fastest option, and ride-shares can be tricky with long waits. If you do drive, buy parking in advance — and leave hours earlier than you think you need to.

Climb the COTA Tower – best view in F1

The 77-metre observation tower is the circuit’s landmark, offering panoramic views of the entire track and Austin skyline. For fans, it’s worth the extra ticket – the photo opportunity is unbeatable, and you’ll see just how much elevation change the track really has.
