2019 Toro Rosso STR14 rolling chassis goes under the hammer at £400,000

A race-used Scuderia Toro Rosso STR14 chassis from the 2019 Formula 1 season is being offered for auction by F1 Authentics. This rolling chassis is described as “an extraordinary opportunity to acquire a genuine Formula 1 race car.”

The STR14 was driven by both Pierre Gasly and Alex Albon during the 2019 season of the turbo hybrid era and contributed to some of the greatest results from the team. During the 2019 Brazilian Grand Prix, the Frenchman finished second after replacing Albon, who moved to Red Bull, just seven races before. Team-mate Daniil Kvyat finished third in Germany in the same year.

The chassis was driven by both Albon and Gasly, with the two accumulating 48 points between them. With such strong results alongside Kvyat’s total of 37 points, the constructor finished sixth in the championship before its rebrand as AlphaTauri.

With its beautiful period livery, it retains the blue, silver, and red colour scheme with the correct sponsor branding of the team’s final season under that name. This includes the silver Red Bull branding down the sidepods, wing and intake, the Honda badging, and Pirelli branding. Plus, period-specific partners such as Moose Craft Hotdogs also adorn the car.

As you would expect from a rolling chassis, this car comes with no power unit, with that being shipped off to Honda’s Japanese base. It has, however, been prepared by the team, with the front suspension, pedal box, steering rack, composite steering column and cooling system hardware all still connected to the car.

Designed under the watchful eye of technical director James Key before the Nottingham graduate moved to McLaren, the car received a number of upgrades for its 2019 campaign. These included high-top sidepods as well as one of the most complex monocoques to come from the outfit due to its tight and efficient packaging.

If the car wasn’t enough, it will also be supplied with two steering wheels (one used for racing and the other for transport) a Toro Rosso car cover, a spare front wing, two sets of wheels and tyres, and the sockets needed to change the wheels.

With the auction house describing it as “one of the only genuine race-used hybrid-era F1 machines ever made available publicly,” it is no surprise that bidding starts at £400,000. The auction will close on 21 October.
