As it happened: 2025 Dutch Grand Prix qualifying | RaceFans Live

This session has finished. No further updates will be posted.

Here’s the grid for the Dutch Grand Prix plus the report on the session. And we’ve just had word from the stewards that Max Verstappen is under investigation – details on that here.

What a lap by Hadjar! The Racing Bulls driver claims fourth on the grid.

Russell stays fourth, Verstappen goes fastest of all in the middle sector, he stays third with a 1’08.925.

Leclerc moves up to fifth, Hamilton goes sixth behind him in the other Ferrari.

Norris fractionally quicker than Piastri in the middle of the lap on his final run. He crosses the line and fails to improve – and Piastri goes no better either! They stay as they are at the front, Piastri provisionally on pole position.

Verstappen goes third, two-tenths of a second ahead of Russell.

Russell is almost six tenths of a second slower in third place. The Ferraris are next.

Piastri does a 1’08.662 and Norris can’t quite beat it – he’s just a hundredth of a second slower. The track record falls again.

Q3 begins and McLaren waste no time in joining the track.

Q2 is over and the following drivers are eliminated: Andrea Kimi Antonelli, Yuki Tsunoda, Gabriel Bortoleto, Pierre Gasly and Alexander Albon.

Lawson knocks Tsunoda out! No Q3 for the second Red Bull driver. Alonso goes seventh and that eliminates Antonelli.

Bortoleto matches Tsunoda’s time but stays 11th behind him!

Tsunoda stays ninth and he’s only safe by three hundredths of a second.

Russell moves up to sixth, four-tenths off the pace. Antonelli slots in behind him in seventh.

Tsunoda well-placed to reach Q3 again. Russell, ninth, improving now he’s on fresh tyres through.

Currently in the drop zone: Fernando Alonso, Liam Lawson, Carlos Sainz Jnr, Gabriel Bortoleto and Pierre Gasly.

Leclerc goes fourth until Hamilton takes it off him, lapping three tenths of a second off Norris, the Ferraris suddenly looking more competitive.

Norris has broken the Zandvoort track record in Q2 with a lap of 1’08.874. Piastri slots into second, nine hundredths off his team mate.

Q1 is over and the following drivers are eliminated: Franco Colapinto, Nico Hulkenberg, Esteban Ocon, Oliver Bearman and Lance Stroll.

Colapinto just makes it to 15th but Tsunoda takes 12th and knocks him out. Hulkenberg can’t improve and stays 17th.

Hamilton gets up to eighth, Leclerc ninth, just six-thousandths between them. Tsunoda is down in 17th and needs to improve.

Carlos Sainz Jnr moves up to eighth, Alexander Albon is almost two-tenths quicker and goes fifth.

The McLaren drivers go out on used tyres and Piastri manages to improve, taking the top time off his team mate with a 1’09.338. Russell takes a fresh set and goes third ahead of Verstappen, who is on old rubber.

Gabriel Bortoleto, Yuki Tsunoda, Franco Colapinto, Esteban Ocon and Lance Stroll in the bottom five. It looks like Stroll won’t run again after his crash.

Leclerc only manages 14th, nine tenths of a second off Norris, he’s looking vulnerable. Hamilton pits, he’s 11th, six minutes to go.

Nico Hulkenberg goes eighth but Gabriel Bortoleto can only manage 14th, then immediately slips to 15th.

Currently in the drop zone: Franco Colapinto, Esteban Ocon, Alexander Albon, Lance Stroll and Gabriel Bortoleto.

Lando Norris goes quickest but a 1’09.459 is almost half a second off his best from before. He stays top though as Oscar Piastri only manages the second-fastest time, 0.158s off. Fernando Alonso goes fourth in the Aston Martin.

Sure enough Verstappen produces a 1’09.754, his fastest time of the weekend so far, to go top.

Lewis Hamilton goes quickest with a 1’10.224. Max Verstappen is on course to beat that, though.

Lance Stroll has crashed! His second brush with a barrier this weekend isn’t as destructive as his one in second practice but he’s hit the front-right at the penultimate corner. He ran onto the grass on the way in and lost control. He returns to the pits and the session continues.

Tsunoda does a 1’10.661 which is three tenths of a second off the best time he set in practice. Bearman goes top with a 1’10.262 which is three tenths quicker than he did earlier.

Yuki Tsunoda, Esteban Ocon, Pierre Gasly, Franco Colapinto and Oliver Bearman make a dash for the pit lane exit.

Q1 has begun under sunny skies at Zandvoort. No drivers have headed out yet.

The radar looks clear ahead of the start of qualifying in just under a quarter of an hour.

Who is at most risk of going out in Q1? It looks like a tough weekend for Alpine who were slowest in the final hour, but Pierre Gasly has pulled off some surprises this year. The Haas and Sauber drivers look most in need of perfect laps to ensure they get through. Andrea Kimi Antonelli was among the bottom five but had to abandon his final effort due to traffic. That is likely to prove a major concern in this session as well.

There’s a strong chance the track record for Zandvoort will fall during qualifying. Max Verstappen set the current record when F1 first returned to the track in 2021, lapping in 1’08.885. However Norris was less than a tenth of a second off that in final practice.

It would be a surprise to see anything other than a front row lock-out for McLaren in qualifying today after what we saw in practice. Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri were over eight tenths of a second quicker than their closest rival in the final hour.
