Oliver Bearman is at risk of a race ban following his penalty for causing a collision in the Italian Grand Prix.
The stewards added two penalty points to the Haas driver’s licence for colliding with Carlos Sainz Jnr at the Roggia chicane.
The stewards ruled Bearman was mostly to blame for the collision and also handed him a 10-second time penalty for his role in it.
“Car 55 [Sainz] attempted to overtake car 87 [Bearman] on the outside into turn four and had its front axle ahead of the front axle of car 87 at the apex, thereby earning the right to the racing line,” noted the stewards.
“The driver of car 87 defended his position on the inside instead of giving up the position and caused the collision. The stewards determine that the driver of car 87 is predominantly at fault and therefore the standard penalty for such incidents is applied.”
Bearman declined to give his view on the collision when asked after the race. “I need to look back,” he told the official F1 channel. “Obviously from my seat I have an opinion, but I need to look.”
He now has the most penalty points of any driver in Formula 1 at the moment, overtaking Max Verstappen. He is not due to remove any penalty points from his licence for another four races.

Both Haas drivers were penalised for incidents during today’s race. Esteban Ocon received a five-second time penalty and a single point on his licence for forcing Lance Stroll off at the Roggia chicane. The stewards ruled he “did not leave sufficient space on the outside” for Stroll.
Andrea Kimi Antonelli also received a five-second time penalty, which dropped him one place to ninth in the final classification. The stewards ruled he drove “erratically” while trying to defend his position from Alexander Albon on the run from the Rettifilo to the Roggia.
“Car 23 [Albon] had a run on car 12 [Antonelli] after turn two and into turn three,” they ruled. “When car 23 was in the process of pulling alongside car 12 at high speed the driver of car 12 moved to the left and squeezed car 23 who had two wheels on the grass. The stewards determine that by doing this he drove in a manner deemed potentially dangerous to car 23.
“However, the stewards also acknowledge that the driver of car 23 was able to maintain control of his car and was subsequently able to overtake car 12 into turn four. A five-second time penalty is deemed sufficient in this case given the circumstances.”
The stewards gave Antonelli one penalty point on his licence, moving him onto a total of five.
