McLaren driver Lando Norris took a step back from social media ahead of the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, which he says allowed him to focus on “things that are productive”.
The British racer, who has 9.9 million followers on Instagram, told media ahead of the Imola GP that he had “not been on social media for a few weeks now”, reports ESPN.
“It’s just not something I enjoy. I don’t need to. It’s my life. I can do what I like,” the Briton said.
“I enjoy not going on my phone as much as I used to.
“I still use my phone and I’m still texting my friends and all these things. I just see social media more, from my perspective, as a waste of my time and energy, and I just don’t need it.”

Norris added that he didn’t “find it interesting” on social media anymore, and has consequently not posted to Instagram since 9 May after he finished on the podium at the Miami Grand Prix.
Instead of posting online or scrolling through endless reels, the McLaren racer says he has freed up time to focus on more important aspects of his life – like the continued fight for the lead of the F1 drivers’ standings against team-mate Oscar Piastri.
“I just feel like I’ve got more time to do things that I want to do,” he said.
“I just want to spend time with my friends. I go and play golf and train and do things that are productive.”
Norris currently sits in second place in F1’s drivers’ standings, just 16 points behind Piastri.
